Why you need Emergency Lighting in your premises

If you own or occupy premises in which people are employed, you are required to carry out a Fire Precautions risk assessment, which Office Test can do for you. Within this, Fire and Building regulations (at both UK and European levels) must be addressed, and Local Authority licenses and Health and Safety legislation taken into consideration. These codes call for emergency illumination of exit routes in the case of fire, requiring purpose-specific lighting and cabling, as well as power sources able to maintain supply in an emergency. Office Test can design, install and maintain an appropriate system for you.

What the regulations say

The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 state that,”Emergency routes and exits requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in case the lighting fails”.

They go on to say that “The employer has legal responsibility for compliance”, as well as making a recommendation that “Advice on the installation should be given by a competent person who specialises in emergency lighting systems”.

Building Regulations 2000 requires that all Emergency Lighting systems comply with the BS 5266-1 code of practice, and systems designed and installed by Office Test and its engineers are warranted as meeting this standard.
